Begging

We are now to the begging stage. We have one week and are begging those of you who are planning on coming to RSVP. If you have already RSVP'd and know of others who are planning to come and have not RSVP'd please urge them to do so. We are commited to about $1700 worth of items and are still only at $1130. If we can't get enough donations by tomorrow evening we will have to cancel some items. We don't want to cancel if we don't have to. Thank You!

UPDATE

We are about half way to our goal. After going door to door to a handful of homes yesterday, we have decided to make some changes to this years party. Because it looks like we are not going to reach our goal of $2500, we will most likely bring in a smoker and sell meal tickets $5 for adults, $2.50 for kids under 10 and under and $20 for a family of 6. We will smoke some ribs and chicken and serve a baked potato with the meat. We will also look at having a soda fountain on hand for the meal as well as some sort of roll or bread. We are going to start a couple of new traditions. There will be a few competitions for both adults and kids, and we will have a traveling trophy for the winner. Each year we will display winners from years past. If you have any suggestions on types of competitions please respond to this post. This year we will have a jousting tournament that starts at 2pm for adults and 3pm for kids. We may also do some sort of PIG or Lighting tournement (basketball). To enter the competitions, there will be a small fee, most likely .50-1.00. If we reach our goal of $2500, we will forgo the meal tickets and just provide the food. The reason for meal tickets if we don't hit our goal would be to recoup the hundreds of dollars fronted by those who organize this awesome party! At 9AM we will have the kids come with their decorated bikes and have a parade. Please respond to this post if your child will be participating in this. THANK YOU

Donations???

After starting out on fire, RSVP's and donations have been sparse. We have had a lot of people mention in passing that they are coming to the party. However, we need everyone to RSVP using the form at the bottom of this blog. We have only booked a dunk tank, and bounce house because this is all we have money for based on the RSVP's we have received.

I know we all get busy with life and this is not the first thing on our minds. This is why we are asking for your help in getting your friends and neighbors to RSVP as soon as possible. We would hate to not have all of our desired items or those items we have had in the past. Please help us in making this the best party yet!!

CRUNCH TIME!!!

We are a little less than a three weeks away, experience over the past few years tells me that we will have plenty of people RSVP the last week before the party. We are 3 weeks away from the party and have only had 6 families RSVP. We got off to a very good start, but the momentum quickly fizzled.

Please remind your neighbors to RSVP as soon as possible. It puts an extreme amount of stress on the people who put the party together when we make the reservations and then stress about making the payment. Some things we have to pay for in full before the we can even reserve them so it important we get the commitments as soon as possible or we lose on opportunities to get certain items.

We have had some wonderful people take up the task of developing the field of weeds behind the community garden. While they are in the process of filing more grants after not receiving the initial grant that was applied for, to receive the grant the community has to contribute a percentage of the overall cost.

To help raise money for this cause, we want to hold an auction right after the BBQ on July 4th. If you or anybody you know has any items they would like to donate to be auctioned off, please contact Toni Johnson.

Update

So far we have had 5 families RSVP, we definitely need more and we need them soon this year, we don't want to have the possibility of canceling the party looming over us. Although we have only had 5 families, we have $300 in donations, we are 1/8th of the way to our goal!

Please remember to fill out the RSVP form even if you donate via PayPal. The headcount is very important this year because we are attempting to bring in a BBQ company. While there are no guaranties, this is our intention.
